​Disney+ wordt beter: nieuw kanaal Star per 23 februari


Dit is de launch line-up

Disney komt met een nieuw kanaal genaamd Star. Dit kanaal bestaat zoals National Geographic binnen streamingdienst Disney+. Het is goed nieuws voor mensen die zoeken naar meer content voor volwassenen. Zo worden onder andere 16 seizoenen Grey’s Anatomy toegevoegd, 9 seizoenen American Horror Story en de originele serie Solar Opposites.

Leeftijdsclassificatie op Disney+

Eén van de belangrijkste mogelijkheden om de content van Star te kunnen zien, dat is de uitgebreide leeftijdsclassificatie. Zo staat je profiel straks standaard op 14+, maar kun je deze zelf op 18+ zetten, eventueel met een pincode zodat kinderen er niet bij kunnen. Er zijn ook allerlei gradaties in kinderaccounts, want er komt wel content bij die ook voor kinderen heel geschikt is. De volgende contentclassificaties zijn mogelijk: 6, 9, 12, 14, 16 en 18 jaar.

Als je vind dat Disney+ niet genoeg content bevat, dan heb je er op 23 februari meteen 250 filmklassiekers bij. Bovendien is vanaf dan ook de Star eigen serie Solar Opposites te zien, een American Dad-achtige animatieserie voor volwassenen. Er komt ook een serie aan genaamd Big Sky, een crimiserie over de vermissing van drie tienermeisjes. Er is ook Nederlandse originele content, zoals een documentaireserie over voetbal. Films die naar Star komen zijn onder andere The Grand Budapest Hotel, Sideways, Black Swan en The Shape of Water. Ook series als Atlanta en It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia staan straks op Star.

Star op Disney+

Het is opvallend waar Disney, dat momenteel een hit heeft met WandaVision, in de perspresentatie op inzette: het woord ‘meer’ werd veelvuldig genoemd. Zo werden alle aankomende Star Wars-, Marvel-, Pixar- en overige Disney+ Originals nog even een keer genoemd. Disney voelt duidelijk dat mensen content missen. Hoewel er natuurlijk heel veel filmklassiekers opstaan uit de meest geliefde entertainmentfranchises ter wereld, heeft de Mouse House begrepen dat we met zijn allen meer nieuwe dingen en oudere niet zo voor de hand liggende dingen willen zien. Met Star lijkt er gehoor te worden gegeven aan die wens.

Hoewel de komst van Star zeer gewenst is op het ietwat te kindvriendelijke Disney+, komt het ook met een nadeel. Disney+ gaat gemiddeld flink omhoog in prijs: van 6,99 euro per maand naar 8,99 euro per maand. Het jaarabonnement gaat van 70 euro naar 89,90 euro. Een fikse verhoging dus, maar daarvoor belooft Disney wel honderden films en series toe te voegen in alleen al het eerste jaar van Star. Pro-tip: stap nu over, want dan betaal je nog een half jaar de oude prijs.
