Ik krijg regelmatig de vraag wat vertical search precies is. Malik heeft een goed artikel en definitie over vertical Search:

So what is vertical search? It is a specialized search engine that mines data for one narrow niche of the market place. Say jobs or travel. Or even high end real estate. Because the data sources are so fragmented, there seems to be an opportunity to massage the data and present it in a manner that is simple to use and easy to consume. Vertical search can offer a more focused audience, and thus increase the efficiency of ads on the search engine.

Voorbeelden van vertical Search Engines zijn bijvoorbeeld: Froogle (shopping), KellySearch (b2b), Scirus (wetenschap), workzoo.com (Jobs) en sidestep.com (travel.)

  • Ik ben juist bezig met een blog over vacature zoekmachines welke vallen onder verticale zoekmachines....ik zal straks nog de link plaatsen als het blog online is. Ik was aan het controleren of mijn informatie klopte en zal een deel van de omschrijving van Malik toevoegen omdat dit zeer doeltreffend is samengevat....
