Google wil een samensmelting van de instant messaging-markt. Het Jabber-protocol dat in bezit is van Google wordt al door enkele clients gebruikt en Google wil nu ook AOL dit protocol voor haar AIM-service laten gebruiken.
Het voordeel is dat straks alle instant messaging-gebruikers met elkaar kunnen communiceren, ongeacht hun programma. Hoe Microsoft hier met hun MSN tegenaan kijkt is nog niet bekend. via PCM
