Google Chrome fopt Hotmail

Google heeft een oplossing voor haar internetbrowser Chrome gevonden waardoor gebruikers van de browser weer met Hotmail kunnen werken. De patch die het probleem oplost is echter wel bijzonder.

Via een slim scriptje wordt Hotmail gefopt waardoor het denkt dat Chrome niets anders is dan een Safari browser. Google komt met een dergelijke “creatieve” oplossing omdat het vindt dat Microsoft veel te veel tijd nodig heeft om het probleem op te lossen.

Op Friendfeed en Google Blogoscoped zijn nog wat reacties van o.a Matt Cutts (Google) en Omar Shahine (Microsoft) te lezen waaruit blijkt dat beide giganten een andere mening over het probleem er op na houden. Google vindt dat Microsoft veel te traag reageert en Microsoft vindt op haar beurt dat het fixen van een bug voor een nog experimentele browser niet de hoogste prioriteit heeft.

You think that Hotmail is a web page and you expect a service with hundreds of millions of users and thousands of servers to stop what it's doing, fix a bug for a browser that the majority of its customers do not use, and spin up an out of band release? We've already committed to addressing this issue in our next service release (already started to roll out to the site) which IMHO is an acceptable reaction. - Omar Shahine

"Omar, it's true that I do consider a web service easier to update than client-side software. Google runs web services with many users and servers too and we launch changes weekly or faster. At any rate, it's great to know that Hotmail's next service release will address this issue--thanks for mentioning that". - Matt Cutts
