Outlook.com krijgt alsnog IMAP

Microsoft heeft per direct IMAP (en OAuth) beschikbaar gemaakt voor Outlook.com. Zo maakt de softwaregigant in een blogpost bekend. Altijd heeft Microsoft de voorkeur gegeven aan het eigen Exchange ActiveSync (EAS)-protocol, hetgeen beschikbaar is op de meeste smaprtphones en tablets, inclusief Windows Phone, iOS, en Android apparaten, alsmede ook de Windows 8 Mail app en Outlook 2013.

Hoewel Microsoft nooit een groot voorstander was van IMAP, bleef onder de achterban wel de vraag over ondersteuning van IMAP bestaan. Tijdens een recente vragenronde op forumsite Reddit.com maakte Microsoft daarom bekend IMAP te gaan omarmen.

"While we believe that EAS is the most robust protocol for connecting to your email, with syncing in near real time, and superior battery and network efficiency, there are still some devices and apps that haven't made the upgrade to EAS. As an older protocol, IMAP is widely supported on feature phones and other email clients such as those on a Mac. We heard your feedback loud and clear that this was important," zo laat productmanager Steve Kafka weten.

    • Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
    • Server port: 587
    • Encryption:  TLS
